New Music: Tree Trunks – Tiempo

Indie-electronic outfit Tree Trunks get both tropical and pastoral with the winding summertime groove of Tiempo.

Lyrically, though, the track – which is the second single from the duo’s upcoming Hot Fruit album – guides you through a stream of consciousness that encompasses everything from fatherhood to Covid to war, as if trying to make sense of how so much happiness and fear, love and horror can co-exist.

Tree Trunks – Londoner Sam Lewis and Brighton-based Robert Hunter – get that across to the listener by using an uptempo reggaeton beat and hints of psychedelia and folk to express how unusual and unreal the times we live in truly are.

Talking about writing the lyrics for Tiempo, Lewis reveals, “It was a patchwork of different thoughts and feelings I had at the time. About my love for my new son, lockdown, the complexity of my Jewish roots in the light of the war in Gaza (something I strongly oppose.)”
