Cover versions can be fraught with risks and danger, mainly due to upsetting your own fans as well as those who loved the original artist. So if you’re going to cover a well-known song, you’ve got to it and yourself justice. Van Bobbi’s cover of the Spice Girls 2 Become 1 manages to do that with considerable cheek and panache.

Van Bobbi strips away the layers of froth and bubblegum pop of the original and brings forth the sensuality that was always there in the lyrics and tune. If the original had a late-night vibe, this version has more of a summer feel to it. I suspect you could be hearing this a lot over the next few months!
