New Music: Van Panther – Gates of Hell

Irish quintet Van Panther know how to get melodic and inventive, and quietly angry, as Gates of Hell from their new album shows in ample measure.

Its sense of anger makes itself known in the howl of rage in the lyrics, a sound and fury that blows away any complacency created by the glacial surface of the arrangement.

The latter is creative and cathartic, giving Gates of Hell a post-genre ambience, one that is perfect for the images of religion, decay, and despair that pepper the lyrics. Think of it as an anti-anthem, as the band gives the listener a message that they might not want to hear, but will surely appreciate.

The band’s Icarian LP is out now and can be downloaded on Bandcamp and streamed on Spotify and YouTube. Head to Van Panther’s Instagram and TikTok socials for more listening options.
