New Music: ViVii – One Day

Regular readers of the blog will be familiar with how little resistance I have to the starry-eyed melancholy that is the music of Swedish trio ViVii. You won’t be surprised that I’ve fallen for the charms of their new single One Day – have a listen below.

ViVii have their own signature sound, and while they play around with it on One Day, adding hints of post-punk to the arrangement, all the essential elements are present. The vocals switch from solo to duet to harmonies with ease; the lyrics are reflective yet universal, the song painted with their blend of lovestruck melancholy.

Speaking about the new song, the trio disclosed, “On a rooftop in Brooklyn 2 years ago, we had a farewell party to some good friends of ours that had joined us on tour. The 3 of us ended up alone like we do most of the time… it started to rain, and we started to chant a melody that has stuck with us since. This is the result of the ViVii chant that we always use right before we go on stage.”
