New Music: Christian Cohle – Living With Lucy

The dark euphoria of Living With Lucy sees Christian Cohle take one step closer to revealing his Queen of Ashes LP.

The emotional sensibility of the song, and Cohle’s vocals have a shimmer of seduction about them that is similar in style and substance to Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring and War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel. The song doesn’t set out a grand scale in the space and scope of the arrangement but allows the vocals and lyrics to create and carry the heart of the song.

The gloss and sense of restraint bring a timbre to the track that got me thinking of The Associates and Avalon-era Roxy Music, a stormy centre obscured by a glossy yet penetrable surface, quietly complex and confident.

“In the spirit of Hey Ya! by Outkast, it pairs an immediate, uplifting energy with a hidden emotional core; something that reveals itself more with each listen,” Cohle explains about the song.

Christian Cohle releases Queen of Ashes this October, and a video for Living With Lucy, directed by Tristan Heanuem, is set to debut on the 11th of June. Keep abreast of all the news from Christian Cohle by following him on Instagram or Facebook.
