New Music: DAAY – Follower
South London art rock outfit DAAY describe their music as drawing influence from contemporary indie, jazz, and psychedelic music. You can hear that and a lot more in the tight, fiercely innovative workout that is Follower.
Three acts that immediately come to mind when listening to Follower are Talking Heads, James, and Roxy Music. That’s in large part down to the song’s seamless fusion of angular rhythms into a smooth, sax-featuring arrangement, all drawn together in a very pop-friendly sensibility.
While the lyrics talk of “Hopping and skipping and dancing over, like it’s 1989,” the track is no excursion in retro chic, instead possessing a very engaging modern – or possibly post-modern – sheen. I quite fancy hearing a whole album of intelligent indie bops like this!

Follower is out now and can be streamed on all major digital platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. The track and previous releases such 2023’s Cosmic Gossip can be downloaded on Bandcamp.

DAAY are currently working on their debut album. They are sure to play Follower and other potential album tracks at The Shacklewell Arms on the 15th of February when they support House Arrest.
