New Music: Softie – Listless

The final track on their recent SOMERSAULT EP, Listless by Oakland’s Softie shows how the band has evolved in recent years.

Originally a solo project of Nicholas Coleman, it has now expanded to a quintet, but the music still has a strong shoegaze theme to it. The guitars wash back and forth, equal and opposite to the flow of the vocals.

Listless strikes a perfect balance between delicate strands and dense tones in the arrangement; slow but not glacial, as the track constantly shimmers and casts shadows, casting prismic spells on the listener.

The new EP marks a departure in another way, with the collegiate nature of its five songs leading to appearances from various Bay Area scene stalwarts, including members of Figure Eight, Christina’s Trip, Slugfeast, H Salt, Fitting, My Pet Fossil, and Buddy Junior

SOMERSAULT is out now via Cherub Dream and streaming on Bandcamp – where you can also find it in cassette format – on Spotify, and YouTube Music. For band news and other streaming options for the EP, head on over to Instagram.
